| For the first time since late April, the average price of gasoline in Rhode Island has fallen under the $3.50 mark, thanks to a six-cent decrease in the last week, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s September 29 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.469 per gallon, six cents less than last week and 64 cents lower than the record high of $4.10 back on July 7. Rhode Island is currently 18 cents below the national average of self-serve regular of $3.64. A year ago at this time the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island was $2.699. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 26 cents, from a low of $3.319 to a high of $3.579. Diesel is down three cents this week to $4.26. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
