| After a week unchanged, gasoline prices in Rhode Island returned to their recent downward trend, dropping an average of three cents this week, leaving prices at their lowest point locally since late April, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s September 22 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.529 per gallon, three cents less than last week and 58 cents lower than the record high of $4.10 back on July 7. Rhode Island is currently 21 cents below the national average of self-serve regular of $3.73. A year ago at this time the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island was $2.669. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 34 cents, from a low of $3.359 to a high of $3.699. Diesel is down nine cents this week to $4.29. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
