| The impact of Hurricane Ike on gasoline prices is not being immediately felt in Rhode Island, as prices today are the same as a week ago, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s September 15 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.559 per gallon, the same as last week and 55 cents lower than the record high of $4.10 back on July 7. Rhode Island is currently 29 cents below the national average of self-serve regular of $3.84. A year ago at this time the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island was $2.659. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 28 cents, from a low of $3.419 to a high of $3.699. Diesel is down eight cents this week to $4.38. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
