| For the second straight week, gasoline prices in Rhode Island have fallen, this time by a penny, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s September 14 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.66 per gallon, down one cent from last week. The current price is nine cents above the national average for regular unleaded of $2.57. A year ago at this time the average price was $3.55. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 33 cents, from a low of $2.529 to a high of $2.859. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Today’s local gas prices and their ranges are as follows: Regular Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.669 ($2.529-$2.859)/$2.729 ($2.689-$2.759) Midgrade Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.819 ($2.699-$2.989)/$2.789 ($2.789-$2.789) Premium Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.939 ($2.799-$3.159)/$2.889 ($2.889-$2.889) Diesel - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.749 ($2.679-$2.859)/$2.749 ($2.689-$2.799) AAA Fuel Saving Tip of the Week Inflate tires according to manufacturer recommendations. Under-inflated tires are a safety hazard and can cut fuel economy by as much as two percent per pound of pressure below the recommended level.
