| Gasoline prices in Rhode Island remain relatively stable as Labor Day approaches, rising just a penny in the last week, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s August 31 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.69 per gallon, up one cent from last week. The current price is eight cents above the national average for regular unleaded of $2.61. A year ago at this time the average price averaged 90 cents more, at $3.59. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 22 cents, from a low of $2.579 to a high of $2.799. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Today’s local gas prices and their ranges are as follows: Regular Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.699 ($2.579-$2.799)/$2.739 ($2.719-$2.759) Midgrade Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.829 ($2.679-$2.989)/$2.849 ($2.849-$2.849) Premium Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.949 ($2.759-$3.159)/$2.949 ($2.949-$2.949) Diesel - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.769 ($2.759-$2.799)/$2.779 ($2.749-$2.799) AAA Fuel Saving Tip of the Week When traveling over the Labor Day holiday weekend, choose a route that enables you to travel at constant speeds and bypass congested areas as much as possible.
