| Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are logging a sharper increase this week, marking the second consecutive week of price hikes, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s August 11 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.65 per gallon, up six cents from last week, on the heels of a two-cent increase the previous week. The current price stands one penny above the national average for regular unleaded of $2.64. A year ago at this time the average price was $3.73, $1.08 more than today. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 23 cents, from a low of $2.539 to a high of $2.769. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Today’s local gas prices and their ranges are as follows: Regular Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.659 ($2.539-$2.769)/$2.699 ($2.649-$2.749) Midgrade Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.779 ($2.639-$2.969)/$2.849 ($2.849-$2.849) Premium Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.899 ($2.739-$3.069)/$2.949 ($2.949-$2.949) Diesel - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.719 ($2.589-$2.799)/$2.699 ($2.649-$2.749) AAA Fuel Saving Tip of the Week With gas prices on the rise, it’s more important than ever to shop around.
