| Gasoline prices in Rhode Island tumbled by an average of 11 cents per gallon last week, falling under the $4.00 mark for the first time since Memorial Day, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s July 28 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.959 per gallon, down 11 cents over last week and 15 cents lower than just three weeks ago. Rhode Island is currently even with the national average of self-serve regular of $3.95. A year ago at this time the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island was $2.909. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 33 cents, from a low of $3.799 to a high of $4.129. Diesel is down seven cents this week to $4.84. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
