| Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up an average of six cents this week, the seventh straight week of increases, according to AAA Southern New England. The six-cent increase follows three consecutive weeks of prices going up by 10-13 cents each week. AAA’s June 1 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.49 per gallon, up six cents from last week and 83 cents since the start of the year. The current price is two cents below the national average for regular unleaded of $2.51. At this point last year the average price had reached $4.01, leaving today’s price $1.52 less than a year ago at this time. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 24 cents, from a low of $2.399 to a high of $2.639. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Today’s local gas prices and their ranges are as follows: Regular Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.499 ($2.399-$2.639)/$2.499 ($2.469-$2.549) Midgrade Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.619 ($2.499-$2.739)/$2.569 ($2.569-$2.569) Premium Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.729 ($2.599-$2.839)/$2.669 ($2.669-$2.669) Diesel - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.479 ($2.299-$2.699)/$2.479 ($2.469-$2.499) AAA Fuel Saving Tip of the Week Minimize the need to brake by anticipating traffic conditions.
