| Gasoline prices in Rhode Island jumped another ten cents last week, the second straight week of double-digit increases, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s May 19 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.809 per gallon, up ten cents from last week, 20 cents from two weeks ago, and 67 cents since the start of the year. Rhode Island is currently one cent above the national average of self-serve regular of $3.79. A year ago at this time the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island was $3.059. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 23 cents, from a low of $3.659 to a high of $3.889. Diesel surged 21 cents last week to $4.67. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
