| Just like last year, the Monday before the Memorial Day weekend is seeing a ten-cent increase in the price of gasoline, the fifth straight week of higher prices in Rhode Island, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s May 18 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.33 per gallon, up 10 cents from last week and 27 cents over the last month, and is two cents above the national average for regular unleaded of $2.31. A year ago at this time, the price had also risen by ten cents over the previous week, but stood at $3.80, $1.47 less than the price today. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 17 cents, from a low of $2.269 to a high of $2.439. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Today’s local gas prices and their ranges are as follows: Regular Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.339 ($2.269-$2.439)/$2.309 ($2.269-$2.359) Midgrade Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.449 ($2.369-$2.599)/$2.419 ($2.369-$2.459) Premium Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.559 ($2.399-$2.699)/$2.519 ($2.469-$2.559) Diesel - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.439 ($2.349-$2.699)/$2.509 ($2.469-$2.549) AAA Fuel Saving Tip of the Week If you have your choice of vehicles for your Memorial Day trip, take the one that gets the best gas mileage.
