Gas Price Skyrocket Past $3.40, Says AAA
(posted by Public Affairs on April 21 @ 10:05 )
Motorists driving around Rhode Island last week probably noticed a daily increase in the price of gasoline. They were right. The final tally for the week: an average increase of 19 cents per gallon over the last seven days, and prices that have surged to new all-time record highs, according to AAA Southern New England.
AAA’s April 21 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.439 per gallon, up 19 cents from last week’s short-lived record high of $3.24. Rhode Island is currently seven cents below the national average of self-serve regular of $3.50. A year ago at this time the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island was $2.819.
The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 19 cents, from a low of $3.329 to a high of $3.519. Diesel jumped another 11 cents to $4.37. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.

AAA Fuel Saving Tip of the Week
This is National Tire Safety Week, and AAA reminds motorists that under-inflated tires can cut fuel economy as much as two percent per pound of pressure below the recommended level.
Estimates are that just 15 percent of drivers properly check their tire inflation pressure, though more than 60 percent recognize checking pressure as a top fuel saving tip. Tire inflation pressure should be checked at least once a month, and should be checked when the tires are cold or haven’t been driven for at least three hours. And remember, use the correct inflation pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, not the pressure listed on the tire sidewall.
