| For the third straight week, gasoline prices in Rhode Island have risen an average of two cents per gallon, and prices locally are now 18 cents higher than at the start of the year, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s April 19 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.84 per gallon, two cents higher than last week. The current price is two cents below the national average for regular unleaded of $2.86. A year ago at this time Rhode Island’s average price was $2.06—78 cents lower than today’s numbers. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 16 cents, from a low of $2.779 to a high of $2.939. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Today’s local gas prices and their ranges are as follows: Regular Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.849 ($2.779-$2.939)/$2.839 ($2.789-$2.889) Midgrade Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.969 ($2.899-$3.059)/$2.979 ($2.89- $3.049) Premium Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $3.079 ($2.939-$3.229)/$3.079 ($2.999-$3.149) Diesel - Self Serve/Full Serve $3.089 ($2.999-$3.149)/$3.089 ($3.089-$3.089) AAA Fuel Saving Tip of the Week If you must replace a gas cap, make sure it is the right one for your car.
