(posted by Public Affairs on April 14 @ 09:54 )
An increase of four cents per gallon has left gasoline prices in Rhode Island at the highest level ever recorded by AAA, including the period right after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, according to AAA Southern New England.
AAA’s April 14 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.249 per gallon, up four cents from last week. The previous record high of $3.23 was reached in 2005 in the immediate aftermath of Katrina. Rhode Island is currently 13 cents below the national average of self-serve regular of $3.37. A year ago at this time the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island was $2.799.
The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 17 cents, from a low of $3.169 to a high of $3.339. Diesel, at $4.26, jumped 11 cents from last week. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
