| Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up again this week, and now are within five cents of the all-time high, while strong global demand has driven diesel fuel past the $4.00 per gallon mark, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s March 17 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.189 per gallon, four cents higher than last week, and 20 cents higher than five weeks ago. During the same five-week period, the average price of diesel rose 65 cents per gallon. Rhode Island is ten cents below the national average of self-serve regular of $3.28. A year ago at this time the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island was $2.579. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 13 cents, from a low of $3.129 to a high of $3.259. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
