| Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up for the fourth straight week, and are the highest they have been since all-time records were set in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s March 10 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.149 per gallon, two cents higher than last week. The average price in Rhode Island hasn’t been this high since September of 2005, when Katrina resulted in a rapid run-up which peaked at $3.23 per gallon, and then quickly fell back. Rhode Island is two cents below the national average of self-serve regular of $3.16. A year ago at this time the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island was $2.569. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 11 cents, from a low of $3.089 to a high of $3.199.
