| Gasoline prices in Rhode Island continue to fall rapidly, with a 24-cent decline over the last week, and 49 cents in just two weeks, leaving motorists paying the lowest prices since March of 2007, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s October 27 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.629 per gallon, 24 cents less than last week. Prices were last this low in March of last year when they were at $2.60. Rhode Island is currently four cents below the national average of self-serve regular of $2.66. A year ago at this time the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island was $2.769. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 66 cents, from a low of $2.339 to a high of $2.999. Diesel is down 17 cents this week to $3.63. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Under inflated tires are a safety hazard and can cut fuel economy by as much as two percent per two pound of pressure below the recommended level.
