| Rhode Island motorists continue to benefit from a small easing of pain at the pump, as prices locally have fallen for the third straight week, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s January 28 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.049 per gallon, three cents less than last week and nine cents less than three weeks ago. Rhode Island is currently six cents above the national average for regular unleaded of $2.989. A year ago at this time the average price in Rhode Island was $2.209. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 17 cents, from a low of $2.969 to a high of $3.139. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
