| For the second consecutive week the average price of gasoline in Rhode Island has risen, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s January 12 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $1.749 per gallon, eight cents more than last week and ten cents more than two weeks ago. The current price is five cents less than the national average for regular unleaded of $1.79, and is still $1.37 less than the $3.11 found a year ago. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 14 cents, from a low of $1.699 to a high of $1.839. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Today’s local gas prices and their ranges are as follows: Regular Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $1.749 ($1.699-$1.839)/$1.769 ($1.699-$1.809) Midgrade Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $1.869 ($1.799-$1.999)/$1.889 ($1.799-$1.969) Premium Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $1.999 ($1.859-$2.589)/$1.989 ($1.899-$2.069) Diesel - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.589 ($2.499-$2.699)/$2.699 ($2.589-$2.799) AAA Fuel Saving Tip of the Week Know the correct starting procedure for your car. Don’t race a cold engine to warm it up or allow it to idle for an extended time. Avoid rapid acceleration until the engine temperature is in the normal range. The engine will warm up faster under a light load, and emissions equipment will begin to function sooner.
