| Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down for the third straight week, a drop of six cents over that three-week period, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s February 8 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.71 per gallon, one cent less than last week. The current price is six cents above the national average for regular unleaded of $2.65. A year ago at this time Rhode Island’s average price was $1.94—77 cents lower than today’s numbers. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 32 cents, from a low of $2.599 to a high of $2.919. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. AAA’s January 11 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.75 per gallon, up nine cents from last week. The current price is one cent above the national average for regular unleaded of $2.74, and it is the highest price in more than a year—since October 2008. A year ago at this time Rhode Island’s average price was $1.74—more than a dollar lower than today’s numbers.
