| For the first time since late April, the average price of gasoline in Massachusetts has fallen under the $3.50 mark, thanks to an eight-cent decrease last week, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s September 29 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.479 per gallon, eight cents less than last week and 61 cents lower than the record high of $4.08 back on July 7. Massachusetts is currently 17 cents below the national average for regular unleaded of $3.649. A year ago at this time the average price in Massachusetts was $2.679. The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 60 cents, from a low of $3.299 to a high of $3.899. Diesel fell seven cents last week to $4.18. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
