Katrina Sends Gas Prices Soaring; AAA Has Online Tools For Consumers
(posted by Public Affairs on August 31 @ 12:54 )
The worst fears of the motoring public have been realized with a major disruption of oil and gasoline supplies in the Gulf of Mexico as a result of Hurricane Katrina, producing an immediate jump in gasoline prices, according to AAA Southern New England.
AAA latest survey, conducted this morning, showed self serve unleaded regular in Massachusetts averaging $2.789 per gallon, up an average of 17 cents in the last two days. Prices range 82 cents from $2.539 to $3.359. AAA anticipates that prices could approach $2.90 by this afternoon, and at some point in the near future go past the $3.00 per gallon mark. The short-term impact of increasing prices should remain intact until product and distribution systems can be returned to normal.
AAA encourages motorists to visit the AAA Fuel Finder at aaa.com, where they can view prices within a 3, 5 or 10-mile radius of their zip codes, and also see the lowest to highest prices in their area.
