| Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are down for the second straight week, the first time in 2009 prices have declined in consecutive weeks, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s July 6 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.599 per gallon, down two cents from last week and four cents in the last two weeks. The current price is two cents below the national average for self serve unleaded of $2.61, and is $1.49 less than the $4.08 found this time a year ago. The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 40 cents, from a low of $2.459 to a high of $2.859. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Today’s local gas prices and their ranges are as follows: Regular Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.599 ($2.459-$2.859)/$2.689 ($2.639-$2.739) Midgrade Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.729 ($2.559-$2.999)/$2.829 ($2.739-$2.899) Premium Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.839 ($2.659-$3.199)/$2.899 ($2.799-$2.999) Diesel - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.679 ($2.549-$2.899)/$2.699 ($2.639-$2.799) AAA Fuel Saving Tip of the Week Don’t top off your gas tank. In warm weather, fuel expansion can cause overflow. And if you must replace a gas cap, make sure it is the right one for your car. A poorly fitting cap can cause engine problems, increase emissions and reduce fuel economy. | With summer auto travel at its peak, Massachusetts motorists are paying more at the pump for the fourth consecutive week, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA's July 5 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.229 per gallon, up two cents from last week and 12 cents from a month ago. One year ago, the price was $1.989. AAA continues to find a wide range of prices among stations selling self serve unleaded gasoline, this week 22 cents from $2.119 to $2.339. AAA urges motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area. Current local gas prices and their ranges are as follows.
