| Gasoline prices in Massachusetts have fallen four cents over the last week, good news for travelers planning to head out over the Memorial Day weekend, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s May 24 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.829 per gallon, four cents less than last week. The current price is three cents above the national average for self serve unleaded of $2.79. A year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was $2.35. The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 44 cents, from a low of $2.659 to a high of $3.099. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Today’s local gas prices and their ranges are as follows: Regular Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.829 ($2.659-$3.099)/$2.939 ($2.899-$3.029) Midgrade Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $2.949 ($2.759-$3.199)/$3.079 ($2.999-$3.129) Premium Unleaded - Self Serve/Full Serve $3.059 ($2.859-$3.399)/$3.179 ($3.099-$3.229) Diesel - Self Serve/Full Serve $3.029 ($2.919-$3.199)/$3.129 ($2.939-$3.249) Memorial Day Travel on the Rise AAA estimates that 32.1 million travelers will take a trip 50 miles or more from home over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, a 5.4 percent increase over last year. | Falling gasoline prices await a record number of travelers headed out over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA's May 23 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.139 per gallon, down three cents from last week and seven cents in the last two weeks. Motorists are continuing to see the impact of recently lower crude oil prices and increasing supplies of gasoline. The price of self serve unleaded was $2.079 last Memorial Day. AAA continues to find a wide range of prices among stations selling self serve unleaded gasoline, this week 23 cents from $2.019 to $2.249. More than 85 percent of the stations surveyed plan to be open next Monday, Memorial Day. AAA urges motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area.
