| Gasoline prices in Massachusetts have fallen one cent over the last week, the first decrease in prices locally since the middle of February, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s May 17 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.869 per gallon, one cent less than last week. The current price is equal to the national average for self serve unleaded of $2.86. A year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was $2.26. The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 42 cents, from a low of $2.679 to a high of $3.099. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Most air conditioners have an “economy” or “recirculation” setting that reduces the amount of hot outside air that must be chilled. Both settings can reduce the air-conditioning load – and save gas. | Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have fallen three cents this week, the first decrease in prices locally since the second week of February, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s May 17 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.94 per gallon, three cents lower than last week. The current price is eight cents above the national average for regular unleaded of $2.86. A year ago at this time Rhode Island’s average price was $2.33. The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 23 cents, from a low of $2.769 to a high of $2.999. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. | Gasoline prices in Massachusetts have fallen for the second consecutive week, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA's May 16 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.169 per gallon, down three cents from last week and four cents in the last two weeks. The price was $2.019 at this point a year ago. Increasing supply and lower crude oil prices are contributing to the lower prices. AAA continues to find a wide range of prices among stations selling self serve unleaded gasoline, this week 20 cents from $2.079 to $2.279. AAA urges motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area. | Increasing supplies of crude oil and gasoline have sent fuel prices lower across the nation in recent days, and Massachusetts has followed suit with lower prices this week, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA's May 9 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.199 per gallon, down a penny from last week. It was one year ago this week that gasoline prices in Massachusetts jumped 16 cents in just one week to $1.929, on the way to what then were record high levels. AAA continues to find a wide range of prices among stations selling self serve unleaded gasoline, this week 14 cents from $2.079 to $2.319. AAA urges motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area.
