| At this time a year ago, gasoline prices in Massachusetts had begun galloping toward the $4.00 mark, which it reached in June. And while prices have been climbing in recent weeks, it is happening at a far slower pace, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s April 27 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.019 per gallon, up two cents from last week and the first time above $2.00 since last November. The current price is four cents below the national average for self serve unleaded of $2.05, yet the price is still $1.53 less than the $3.54 found this time a year ago. The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 27 cents, from a low of $1.929 to a high of $2.199. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time. Use the air conditioner conservatively. Most air conditioners have an “economy” or “recirculation” setting that reduces the amount of hot outside air that must be chilled. Both settings can reduce the air conditioning load – and save gas. |
