| Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are up again this week, and are now within ten cents of the all-time high, while strong global demand has driven diesel fuel past the $4.00 per gallon mark, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s March 17 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.139 per gallon, up five cents from last week, and 19 cents higher than five weeks ago. During the same five-week period, the average price of diesel rose 59 cents per gallon. Massachusetts is currently 15 cents below the national average for regular unleaded of $3.289. A year ago at this time the average price in Massachusetts was $2.529. The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 26 cents, from a low of $3.039 to a high of $3.299. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
