| Gasoline prices in Massachusetts have fallen 72 cents in just the last month, and a 31-cent plunge over the last week leaves motorists paying the lowest prices since almost a year ago, according to AAA Southern New England. AAA’s October 20 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.839 per gallon, 31 cents less than last week. Prices haven’t been this low since last October, and are below $3.00 per gallon for just the fifth time in 2008. Massachusetts is currently nine cents below the national average for regular unleaded of $2.929. A year ago at this time the average price in Massachusetts was $2.679. The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 81 cents, from a low of $2.589 to a high of $3.399. Diesel fell 14 cents last week to $3.77. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
